Down the bay where the nights are gay
And the sun shines daily on the mountain top
I took a trip on a sailing ship
And when I reached Jamaica I made a stop
밤엔 즐거운 일이 가득하고

낮에는 산마루에 하루종일 햇빛이 빛나는 곳을 찾아

범선을 타고 여행을 떠났다네

그렇게 하여 도착한곳은 자마이카

 

But I'm sad to say I'm on my way
Won't be back for many a day
My heart is down, my head is turning around
I had to leave a little girl in Kingston town
하지만 아쉽게도 내 여행길은 아직 끝나지 않았고

당분간은 돌아가지도 않을거라네

마음은 우울하고 머리는 혼란스럽기만 하다네

킹스턴에서 아가씨와 이별을 해야만 했었다네

 

Sounds of laughter everywhere
And the dancing girls sway to and fro

어디서나 웃음소리가 가득하고

아가씨들은 허리를 흔들며 춤을 추고 있다네

메인에서 멕시코까지 다 다녀보았지만

내 마음이 가는 곳은 바로 그곳이라네

`Akey' rice, salt fish are nice
And the rum is fine any time of year
저 아래 시장골목에선 아키며 쌀이며 얼음에 잰 소금
생선을 머리에 인 아낙네들의
물건파는 소리가 들려오고

럼주는 일년내내 그 맛이 일품이라네
